Some months ago we announced our transition from subsidy publishing to traditional royalty publishing. Unfortunately, the drastic downturn in the U.S. economy, combined with rapidly rising costs and vanishing credit for small business, forces us to postpone that transition. Until our financial outlook improves, we will only accept manuscripts for publication with an author subsidy.

That doesn’t mean we are willing to publish every manuscript we look at. We will consider most genres, but will reject manuscripts that bore us unbearably, are offensive, without redeeming quality, or are so badly written we can’t make something worthwhile from them.

Authors considering subsidy publishing will find many publishers willing to take their money. We believe that Counterbalance Books provides the highest possible quality at a very reasonable price.
