Publishing

Counterbalance Books will consider manuscripts in most genres. We will, however, not publish pornography or material advocating any kind of bigotry.

Basic subsidy publishing package prices:

Poetry book: $1,000;
B&W, illustrated children's book (author furnished illustrations): $1,000;
Young Adult and Adult prose book (fiction & non-fiction): $2,000.

This is what we provide:

Light copy editing
Prose is edited for grammar, spelling, and punctuation, as well as consistency of voice. Poetry is edited for necessary punctuation to enhance clarity.

Cover design
Each full-color cover is a custom design to suit the content of the book. Our designers do not use ready-made templates.

Interior layout & typesetting
Our book designer does not use templates. Each typeface and style is selected to enhance the text, providing readers with ease of comprehension and a pleasing visual appearance.

Printing
Books are produced by POD (Print on Demand) technology, eliminating the cost (and risk) of investing in a large inventory. Our POD printer is among the best in the business, producing books that are indistinguishable from offset printing.

Author copies
Each package includes ten free author copies of the printed book. Authors may purchase additional copies at wholesale prices.

Distribution/sales
Your book will be listed with major wholesalers and leading online booksellers. It will also be available through the Counterbalance books website.

Promotion
We provide an attractive author page on the Counterbalance Books website. We also provide, at no additional cost, a press release that we submit to an online press release service, and which the author can use for his/her own promotional efforts.
